In a suburb of Chicago in 2002 a gaming group came together in hopes of
just having a good time. During those good times, it became clear that
who went when, and what was going on became increasingly difficult to keep
track of. In a stroke of brilliance, the DM made an “initiative chart”
where who went when was kept track of. This chart was not only so the DM
could focus on what he had to do, but also kept the players interested.
Years later that piece of paper was spilled on, wrinkled, torn, and generally
destroyed. After much research and testing, a new board was born. Looking
exactly like the original board, this board solved issues like names being
scattered in mild winds, and players having to make new place holders when a new
character came along. The word needed to be spread. The original could help
others. Meanwhile, back in the alchemy lab, another board was being designed
from gamer input. From the collective minds from a number of players, The
Deluxe was born. The Deluxe was a board that solved a number of problems that
I had while running the game, and frustrations that I ran into when calculating
attack, damage, and AC bonuses. From these boards, Ready and Waiting was born.
